and Solip's Honeymoon
July 12, 2010 - One airport after another, our first Thai massage, and Kandaburi Resort Since a few days before the wedding, I've been averaging four hours of sleep a night. I had really looked forward to getting some much needed rest on this honeymoon. I got wonderful memories in lieu of sleep. We started out at Incheon International Airport where I had my first problem ever at the security checkpoint. Several years ago, I was given a tiny Swiss Army pocketknife as a gift by one of my Boston Campus students. I had kept it in my key wallet ever since. Well, I had forgotten to pack this knife with our checked luggage. As we didn't have time to check it in with the rest of our luggage, I surrendered it. (sigh) Our five-hour flight to Bangkok was a reasonably comfortable one. We had a considerable layover at Suvarnabhumi Airport where I got to use Thai money for the first time in twenty years. Four hours later, we were on a one-hour flight to Samui Airport, perhaps the cutest airport in the world (I don't know; I haven't been to enough of them.). We met our tour guide Peter, a Korean who's chosen to settle down in Thailand. He took us to a small Thai massage parlor where we got the first of our three massages on this trip. This one included a collagen facial. It was pretty amazing. Solip and I both learned why Thai massage is world famous. They seem to use every part of their body to massage every part of our body. Pretty ingenious! I had never heard my neck and back crack so much (my masseuse was a big lady!). I felt like a tenderized steak afterward. Then Peter took us next door where we had bibimbap for dinner (his clients are Korean, after all). We concluded our evening by checking in at Kandaburi Resort. At the reception area we were welcomed with tea (this would become Solip's favorite part of each place we visited) and a jasmine garland. Kandaburi was really nice, and I think the pictures will speak for themselves. Let your mouse
